Maintain & Renew Your Certification
Every PAII certification is valid for a fixed period, shown on your certificate. Renewing keeps it active and verifiable.
Why Certification Maintenance Matters
AI tools, methods, governance practices, and professional standards change faster than most fields. A certification earned several years ago can represent knowledge that's meaningfully out of date — renewing yours is a way of confirming that what it represents is still current, not just that the exam was once passed.
Staying certified also keeps your credential active and verifiable wherever employers, clients, or institutions check it.
Know Your Certification Status
- Identify your certification — the exact credential and issue date, shown on your certificate.
- Check its validity — verify your certification to see its current status and expiration date.
- Review your renewal requirements — the fee, deadline, and any requirements specific to your certification, shown in your account.
- Complete any required activities, if your certification has continuing-education requirements.
- Submit your renewal before your certification's expiration date, or within its grace period.
- Stay verified — a renewed certification continues to show as active wherever it's checked.

Renewal Requirements
Renewal terms — the fee, deadline, and any continuing-education requirement — are specific to each certification and shown on your certificate and in your account. Most current PAII certifications renew based on a fee and the renewal window above, without a separate continuing-education requirement; where a certification does carry specific requirements, they're shown on that certification's own page. Browse all PAII certifications for details on a specific credential.
Professional Development Activities
Where a certification's renewal does include a continuing-education component, activities that typically count toward it include:
- PAII courses and certification programs
- Structured AI training or workshops
- Professional conferences and industry events
- Teaching, mentoring, or knowledge-sharing in your field
- Other structured, relevant professional learning
Only activities your specific certification's renewal terms recognize count toward its requirement — check your certificate or account for what applies to you.
Expired Certifications
If a certification passes its expiration date without renewal, it enters a grace period (shown above) during which it can typically still be renewed. If the grace period passes as well, reinstatement options can differ by certification — contact PAII support or check your account for guidance specific to your credential.
